About
ROGER LORIN
Summer 1964, from the very first restoration work on the Priory, Roger Lorin, a young 33-year-old painter, decided to dedicate it to the Arts.
A gifted artist, a remarkable teacher, he is also a discerning music lover.
The Margand Quartet, linked by a Parisian friendship with Roger Lorin, was the first ensemble to perform in Chirens, 52 years ago. The spirit of the festival reflects the personality of its founder. This was evident from that very first concert, blending the tradition of the quartet with the modernity of its four female members, and talent with friendship. A pioneer, scholar, and charismatic figure, Roger Lorin dedicated his genius to the Arts and Artists, without ever compromising his artistic standards.
The Association of Friends of the Priory, which he founded and presided over, wishes to pay him a new tribute on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of his passing.
Two on-site improvisation sessions on works by Roger Lorin, led by Jean-François Zygel and soloists from the Ensemble Orchestral Contemporain, will bring together the three elements of the Chirens Priory: architecture, visual arts, and music. This will be a way of writing a new chapter in the history of this unique place in the summer of 2016.
